Equipment Cleaning Essentials

Equipment cleaning is an often-overlooked part of the production process. Optimal cleaning procedures are essential for maintaining product quality and production output without the need for costly shutdowns.

Ideally, firms will use one cleaning process for all pieces of equipment or systems. However, this is not always the case.

Scrubbers

Scrubbers are a popular way to purify exhaust gases from industrial power plants and ships. They work by using scrubbing liquid to filter out hazardous materials and pollutants in the gas before it is discharged into the atmosphere.

Several models are available and differ in how they are installed. One of the most common types is the venturi scrubber.

In this unit, a high-velocity gas stream passes through a constriction to atomize the scrubbing liquid into droplets and remove particulates. This system achieves high efficiencies for particles larger than 0.5 mm in diameter.

Another type of wet scrubber is the orifice scrubber. It uses a high-velocity gas stream to impinge on a series of baffles and removes particulates and other pollutants.

When you’re done cleaning, dump the scrubber’s recovery tank at your facility’s designated chemical dumping area. The tank will usually have a gauge that tells you how full it is.

Polishers

A polisher is a machine that works by using floor pads to scrub, polish or buff a floor. These machines help to give floors a fresh new look and can be very beneficial in helping to save time and labour costs.

They are also useful for commercial cleaning jobs where a large amount of floor area needs to be cleaned. They can be used on a variety of hard floor surfaces, including concrete, terrazzo and epoxy.

There are two main kinds of buffing machines: floor buffers and orbital polishers. Buffers do a great job of removing stains, polishing and giving floors a nice shine.

It is a good idea to clean your polisher pads regularly in order to maintain their performance and longevity. You can do this by dusting them or by cleaning them using a cleaner solution.

Microfiber Cloths

Microfiber cloths are a must-have for your cleaning arsenal. Often used in place of cotton rags, they are a super-efficient way to wipe up messes around your home and office.

They pick up dirt and dust like a magnet, clinging to it and preventing it from being spread to other surfaces. This is why they’re so effective for cleaning, reducing the number of cleaning products you use.

The microfibers are about 10-20 times smaller than a human hair, making them more effective at picking up and removing dirt and dust. They’re able to do this because of something called van der Waals force.

It’s a weak electromagnetic attraction that makes the strands of fibers bind together, which holds dirt and dust to the cloth. But when you wash a microfiber, this van der Waals force relaxes, breaks up the fibers, and releases the dirt and dust trapped on them.

Mops

Mops are an important part of any cleaning process. They help to collect and remove dirt, grime and larger dust particles that can easily be missed by hand sweeping.

They also make cleaning floors faster and easier than traditional methods. In addition, mops can lessen waste and improve environmental sustainability.

However, mops can also cause issues with bacteria buildup. This is because mops are typically stored wet, which supports bacterial growth.

The best way to keep mops clean is to rinse them with a solution of hot water and soap after every use. Soap helps to lift the dirt and oil into the water, making it float.
