Pop-ups are one of the most annoying things about browsing the web. They can get in the way of your content and sometimes send you to nefarious sites.
Luckily, most browsers block these pop-ups by default, but there are some cases where you may want to allow them. Here’s how to do it on iPhone and iPad.
1. Go to Settings
There are a number of reasons why you might want to turn off pop up blocker on your iPhone. For one, you might want to allow pop-ups from a particular website that you trust. Alternatively, you might need to disable pop-ups from spammy or dangerous websites. In either case, you can do it without changing your browser settings.
If you’re using a Mac, you can also use the Chrome app’s Content Settings menu to turn off pop-ups and enable them for certain websites. However, you’ll need to make sure you’re not disabling the feature in the wrong way — if so, you might want to consider switching to a different web browser.
While you’re at it, make sure to disable any other ad-tracking features that might be collecting data about your browsing habits. These can include Personalized Ads and Apple Advertising, which display ads based on your usage habits.
Another way to prevent pop-ups is by enabling iOS’s Auto-Lock feature. This feature will automatically lock your phone after a predetermined period of time, preventing others from accessing your data.
This can be handy if you’re traveling, for example. In addition, you can disable the feature if your iPhone isn’t connected to a Wi-Fi network.
To do this, open the Settings app on your phone and navigate to the Security & Privacy section. Tap the ‘Advanced’ option to unlock more settings.
You’ll be able to change your default browser, set passwords, and more. You can also customize the notifications that appear on your screen, including those for messages, calls, and email.
While you’re at it, you can also enable Raise to Wake, which turns your screen on when you raise your phone to see notifications. It’s useful if you like to check your messages while on the go and don’t want to have to unlock your device to do so.
You can also use the iPhone’s Safari web browser to change your pop-up blocking settings. This is especially useful if you’re unable to find the Settings icon on your device.
2. Go to Safari
When you have a problem with Safari on your iPhone, there are some simple things you can do to try to fix it. For example, you can try to turn off the pop up blocker on your phone so that you can see if it helps or not.
The first thing you need to do is to go to the app’s settings. You can access Safari’s settings by opening the app, swiping down from the top of the screen to the menu, and then tapping the “Safari” option in the left column.
Once you’ve opened the settings, you can then select the tab that says “Content.” Scroll down to “Block Pop-ups,” and then toggle it off. This will ensure that you can’t see any pop-ups on your phone, and will let you use Safari again.
Another thing you can do is to clear the history and website data that Safari keeps on your phone. This will help to speed up your phone and prevent websites from loading slowly.
You can also search for a particular page using the Safari history on your iPhone, by simply tapping the book icon at the bottom of the screen and then selecting the History tab at the top of the screen. This will reveal a field that says “Search History,” and then you can type in a term or phrase that you want to find, and then the pages from your Safari history will show up.
In some cases, you may find that a third-party extension or plug-in is causing problems with Safari. To avoid these types of issues, you can try to disable all extensions and plug-ins that aren’t needed for the websites you’re visiting.
If this doesn’t work, you can try to remove the extension that’s causing the problem. To do this, you can open the browser and tap the three-dot menu at the bottom of the screen.
Once you’ve done this, you can then go back to the settings and check to see if you’re still able to view the web pages that you wanted. If you are, then you can turn the pop up blocker on again to continue to keep your phone safe from unwanted ads.
3. Go to Content Settings
If you need to use a website that uses pop-ups, but your iPhone’s default web browser is blocking them, you can turn off the blocker. Luckily, Apple’s Safari and Chrome apps have pop-up settings built right into them that let you allow or disable pop-ups on your iPhone.
Pop-ups are a standard feature of many websites that have to display their content in a pop-up window. This feature can be annoying and distracting, but it’s a necessary part of some websites to allow users to interact with the content they’re trying to view.
Fortunately, Apple’s iOS includes tools that can help parents monitor their child’s iPhone usage and restrict features that they don’t need or want. These tools are available to anyone who has an iPhone, regardless of age or device type.
Limit Adult Content: The Limit Adult Content setting is designed to prevent kids from seeing any content that contains explicit material. If you choose this option, the iPhone’s algorithms will detect any links that lead to adult content and automatically prevent them from loading.
Ratings For: This section allows users to control which country’s content ratings will apply to media stored on the iPhone. This is useful if you’re not sure what the content ratings are for an app or site, or if you want to make sure that your kids don’t have access to media that may contain inappropriate content.
Music, Podcasts & News: This setting prevents the playback of music, music videos, and podcasts that contain explicit content. Any content that is currently playing will stop, and any that’s in the cloud won’t be visible.
Disabling this setting will also remove any CarPlay connections, and will disable the ability to use iTunes Store on the iPhone. These changes will only stay in place if you enable them again through the restrictions section of Settings.
Erase All Content and Settings: If you’re worried that someone else might have access to your iPhone, or if you’re having issues with iOS or the device itself, you can erase all of its contents and settings. This can be an effective way to protect your phone’s data from strangers, fix iOS issues, or sell the device.
4. Go to Block Pop-ups
Pop-ups are annoying windows that appear when you’re browsing the internet. They can be useful for displaying information such as an option screen or a download confirmation, but they can also cause distraction and clutter your online experience.
Most browsers include a pop-up blocker that automatically prevents unwanted windows from appearing in the browser. However, there are some cases where you want to allow websites to open their pop-ups.
To do this, go to the browser’s preferences and scroll down to the “Pop-Up Windows” setting. Next to each Currently Open Website you’ve opened, select the drop-down box to choose whether or not to allow them. If you don’t want to allow them, or don’t want them to be notified, select either Block or Block and Notify.
You can also use a third-party pop-up blocker for preventing unwanted windows from opening in your browser. You can find many good ones in the App Store, and you can even customize them to match your needs.
If you’re using the Mac version of Safari, you can easily allow or disable pop-ups for certain websites. To do this, click Safari > Preferences from the menu bar.
In the pop-up window that appears, you’ll see three options: Currently Open Sites, Configured Sites, and When Visiting Other Websites. Next to each, there’s a drop-down box for Allow, Block, or Block and Notify.
For a more robust pop-up blocking solution, you can use a third-party app like AdGuard for Mac. This app will block ads on your iPhone, and it will also keep your web browser safe from harmful pop-ups.
Generally speaking, pop-up blockers are installed for one of two reasons: They prevent unwanted ads from showing up on the browser or they stop unnecessary window openings from occurring in the browser. The former is the primary purpose, but depending on the type of ad blocker you install, it can also help keep you safer online by preventing malware and other viruses from stealing your personal information.
You can easily enable and disable pop-ups on an iPhone by going to the Settings app, then scrolling down to Safari and tapping it. You can also enable or disable the built-in Safari pop-up blocker by opening the browser and swiping left on its quick-access tabs.
